Logic Spock's favorite lifestyle, if only more people would lean towards a Vulcan way of thinking. It doesn't have to be as extreme, after all, what fun is life without emotions, but I believe life overall would be much better and easier when a lot more logic would be used. But maybe it has more to do with people being less selfish. Over the years whenever I see/hear about a decision made that sounded illogical to me, it usually had to do with someone either not wanting to do the work, or not wanting to confront the person who benefitted from the decision. Because I tend to look at everything from different perspectives I can understand most decisions, but I wish people could let go of this self centered thinking and do what is most logical in a situation. Mind you, what is most logic isn't always what's wanted as sometimes it feels better to make an emotional decision. Going the logical way sometimes takes a lot more courage, other times it's about just taking the risk. So, when to make a logical decision and when not to? In general it depends more on the respect towards other people. The less respect one has to others the less chance of a logical decision. A logical decision should be made to please the majority of those affected. It should also be made by the ones who know what they're talking about. You can't leave a decision about farming up to an accountant and visa versa. One can influence the other if they have relevant information though. Which is why it's important to base logical decisions on plenty of accurate information (questionable existance of WMD's to start the Gulf war anyone?). Now I'm not the one to preach about logic, I myself don't do the logical thing as often as I should, but I am aware of myself and any consequences of not following the logical path in life. But, as long as it doesn't affect others, doesn't it make life more interesting? |
